A little oats and sugar

My last post mentioned that I was grain-free. I forgot about my daily desserts from the Protein Bakery...

www.proteinbakery.com
All the cookies and brownies are wheat free, they're made from ground oats. They add protein powder to reduce the glycemic load. They also have minimal sugar.I love all the flavors, they're my after dinner dessert. I have 2 of the small cookies during the weekdays, on weekends I'll have a brownie.

My other dessert are these tasty truffles from Cocopotamus...

www.cocopotamus.com
These are the Bo Peeps, made with 88% cocoa. No wheat and minimal sugar because of the high cocoa content. Sometimes I'll have one as an afternoon snack.

I want to limit my desserts to these 2 companies. When it comes to the sweet stuff, I'm better off with very few options.

I love Austin so much

that's it's the 5th time I'm done their marathon!

It's been a couple years since my last one, I was happy to see that the course had changed. The last time I did it, I had to take a shuttle to the start. I hate taking shuttles, my favorite races are when the expo, start and finish line are all within 1 mile of my hotel. That's how Austin is now. I was a very happy camper.

My streak of doing marathons in good weather is still intact. When I arrived on Saturday, the weather was gloomy with intermittent downpours. Here's a view from my hotel around 4pm..

Go away rain!
Luckily, by Sunday morning, the rain was gone and replaced by sunny skies. The tempts were perfect, low 50's to mid 60's.

I enjoyed the route too. There was none of the dreaded "out and backs". The hills kind of kicked  my ass but it's good training for the 50 miler. I can't believe it's only 2 months away.

I've been wheat free for 10 days

and grain free too.

The last time I ditched wheat, it was a struggle. This time feels different, I think something has clicked.

Last weekend I completed the Austin marathon on a grain free diet. No problems, I did miss my post race bagel and coffee. I was eating delicious food from this place...

I wish there was a Snap Kitchen in New Mexico. All the food is prepared in containers for breakfast, lunch, dinner, desserts and snacks.

They have different diets, vegetarian, gluten and dairy free, etc. I chose the Paleo meals. I bought almond crusted salmon, crust-less quiche, mashed cauliflower, some sugar/grain free desserts and some juices.

I loved eveything I ate, Austin is very lucky to have a place like this. Snap Kitchen is also in Houston.

I'm experimenting with some recipes this weekend. I've made some salmon in my trusty sous vide machine. I'm making a whipped coconut milk mousse this afternoon.

I'm reading this book

and it's changing the way I look at sugar.

I had originally planned on just eliminating wheat. I wouldn't eat cake made with flour but I could eat a flour-less chocolate cake. I have a long list of  flour-less desserts that still contain lots of sugar.

Although I'm only 3 chapters into the book, I know I need to if not eliminate, then drastically cut back on my sugar consumption. This could be tougher than quitting wheat.
